Losing my family

BETTY AKELLO.jpg

Uganda 🇺🇬 “I loved my country South Sudan. I fled Sudan to go to Uganda to a refugee camp because of unending war. My children were killed in the conflict, one this year and another last year, so I am just alone without even a husband. I wish they killed me and left my children. I spent two months in the bush trying to run away from rebels. I was helped by my neighbour who carried me up to Uganda. I was sick and could not travel alone. We moved in the night until I reached Uganda. l have no family now. My family is UNHCR and the Government of Uganda who have supported me. I was given land to start farming and building materials to setup my house. I am grateful that I am now recovering from pain. I have met some of my relatives in the Bidibidi Refugee Camp as well. I have started a new life. If war ends in South Sudan, I will go back to my country to see the grave of my husband and two children. For now, I am in Uganda until South Sudan stabilises."
