Street voices
Canada 🇨🇦 “When I was younger I got into trouble a lot. I was kicked out of school. I got arrested. So those things led to me being thrown out of the house. While I was in the Toronto shelter system I founded the Street Voices movement to empower marginalised voices. I started this for the next Joel, so they don’t have to go through what I went through. People always need exposure and with @streetvoicesto we always go straight to the underground. For most people, this is the first time they get published in a magazine.
There’s an underground population of creative, young, ambitious individuals, and all they are missing is the platform, all they’re missing is the opportunity. There’s a quote, 'People don’t have ideas, ideas have people.' This was an idea that just had me. I’m definitely a survivor, because people in my circumstances end up in jail, on drugs, sometimes dead. Knowing when to listen to myself and not listen to the crowd, helped me to survive. There’s a lot of negative influences out there in the streets. If I didn’t have a bigger vision, I’d be just as lost as a lot of people."
